Congratulating our Women of Tomorrow

On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, our General Counsel, Robbin Newman (pictured top left), attended the annual graduation luncheon for The Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship Program (“WOT”) where she has participated as a mentor to “at risk” high school girls at Western High School in Davie for over seven years.
The program was founded in 1997 by TV Journalist and Author Jennifer Valoppi and Telemundo President Don Browne as a means for women to help women. WOT “inspires, motivates and empowers” high school young women through mentoring by accomplished women from the community, as well as scholarships which are awarded annually to graduating seniors who apply for WOT scholarships. The mentors and mentees meet monthly during the school year, as the WOT program is active in over 100 public high schools located throughout Palm Beach County, Broward County, Miami-Dade County and in Metro Detroit, with over 2,000 mentees in the program annually. Robbin has now experienced several classes of high school senior mentees who have graduated from Western High School and attended college where they are excelling in their studies, graduating from college, and in some cases even furthering their education with a nursing degree as the result of scholarship opportunities awarded through WOT. On May 1, WOT awarded $250,000 worth of scholarships to graduating seniors from the Class of 2012. In the photo below, Robbin and her graduating seniors proudly display their scholarship awards which include two Florida prepaid tuition scholarships and a full nursing scholarship.
If you are interested in being a mentor, or a guest speaker, or otherwise supporting WOT as it undertakes its national expansion (the first location out of Florida is Detroit), please go to: www.womenoftomorrow.org to find out more about the wonderful organization and the wonderful work that our own General Counsel does in the community through WOT.
