Danburg Insights: Business Trend Watching & Casual Reading – What’s on Your Daily List?
Written on April 2, 2013 at 10:17 am
Entrepreneurs and real estate developers – whether in Boca Raton or any growing market – have to be trend watchers. When you have commercial, office and warehouse space to fill – or sales to generate to keep your business successful – what’s happening in the marketplace often can lend a clue as to where your next tenant prospect, development deal or sales lead may come from.
Here at Danburg Properties of Boca Raton, we try to stay atop local and national trends through our daily and weekly reading lists.
In fact, reading lists – whether for work or pleasure, for professional or personal development – can speak volumes about a person’s interests and characters.
We’re not talking books, here. As summer approaches, everyone from Oprah to the New York Times to your Facebook friends will be sharing their book recommendations.
We’re talking about short reads – the “electronic magazines,” emailed newsletters, blogs and other content digitally delivered and designed to be consumed and digested quickly.
So here’s a start – from your friends at Danburg…
When we awake, our Yahoo and Google portals have accumulated news from all the major U.S., European and global networks and journals. This international perspective on business and the real estate industry lends a new point of view readers otherwise won’t get if stuck in a U.S. mindset.
A quick scan of our Google Alerts help clue us in to what’s happening across the web in the real estate development industry – or whatever topic we’re following.
Our day also starts in print and online with the Sun-Sentinel, the Palm Beach Post and the Miami Herald give a glimpse into local news and business developments. The Wall Street Journal takes that view to a national scale.
Among our other daily reads… For the marketers or trend watchers out there, Seth Godin’s blog and ezine provide a daily dose of marketing wisdom and entrepreneurial insights from one of the smartest, most down-to-earth marketers around.
We get messages from the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, daily emails from The Urban Land Institute, and we devour our weekly Kiplinger Letter’s deep dive into financial and business news.
Actually, Kiplinger is the only blog / newsletter that we subscribe to and pay handsomely for – as we have for the last 20 years or so. Every Friday, this four-page, bulleted fact sheet offers economic projections, observations, studies and facts. It is well-written, and because we have read it for years, we can compare their past projections to current market realities. As an entrepreneur and developer whose success is keenly tied into global trends, their insights are invaluable.
Our personal reading list includes various weekly newsletters from the American Kennel Club, Dog News and BestInShow.com, with a few sailing, golf, technology and South Florida professional sports reports for the Miami Heat, the Miami Dolphins and others tossed in for a well-rounded reading list.
So, what’s on your reading list? Let us know…
